Hevy logs your workouts.
EXE writes them.
These two are not fighting over the same ground. Hevy is an excellent, very cheap training log. EXE is an AI coach: it decides what to do, at what weight, and adapts when the session falls apart. The question is not which is better — it is whether you already have a plan.

Where Hevy is the better pick
On its own ground — writing down what you just lifted — Hevy is very hard to beat, and far cheaper.
The log is exemplary: automatic rest timer, warm-up sets, drop and failure sets, a plate calculator, a monthly report, sets per muscle group per week, progress photos, per-exercise notes. It runs on iOS, Android, the web, Apple Watch and WearOS, in 16 languages. Hevy states it has over 16 million athletes.
And the price is not in the same universe: Hevy Pro is listed at $2.99/month, or $74.99 once and for all. EXE Premium is €9.99/month. On cost alone, Hevy wins comfortably.
If you already have a program — written by you, by your coach, or lifted off the internet — and you just want somewhere to log it, get Hevy. You do not need us.
Where EXE is different
1. The plan is included, not behind the paywall
Hevy Trainer, Hevy's program generator, is a Pro feature — it is not available on the free version. On EXE the program and the suggested weights are part of the free plan, with no time limit. That is the difference between "free to log" and "free to train".
2. What happens when the session falls apart
A log records what happened. It does not tell you what to do when the rack is taken, when you have 30 minutes instead of 60, or when your shoulder complains. In EXE a "Coach IA" pill during the session takes those inputs and proposes an adjustment — a substitution, a load change, more rest, a shorter session. Nothing is written until you tap to apply it.
The substitution protocol, with sources, is in the machine is taken: how to swap an exercise.
3. Nutrition in the same app
Hevy's feature list does not mention nutrition. EXE generates meal plans and macro targets on an ingredient database drawn from CIQUAL. If you count protein, that is one fewer app. For the numbers, see how much protein you actually need.
4. More than the weight room
Hevy is built around lifting. EXE covers 13 sports — strength training, boxing, running, swimming, yoga and others. If lifting is all you do, this changes nothing for you.
How to choose, honestly
Pick EXE if:
- You have no program and you don't want to write one
- You want suggested weights and plan generation without paying
- You want the app to react during the session, not only afterwards
- You want training and nutrition in one place
- You train across more than one sport
Pick Hevy if:
- You already have a program and want the best log for it
- Price is your first criterion ($2.99/month or $74.99 lifetime)
- You want Apple Watch or WearOS during the session
- The social feed and leaderboards are what keep you going
- You don't need nutrition in the app
Nothing stops you running both: plenty of lifters keep their historical log and test a generator alongside it. And if the real question is what weight to put on the bar, we wrote the RPE/RIR method — it works in any app.
